ART PEOPLE WILL LITERALLY BUILD A DIORAMA INSTEAD OF TALKING ABOUT THEIR FEELINGS
As many of you know, I’m a huge fan of the band AJJ. They’ve been a pillar in my life through their music and metaphor (and advocacy!) for over a decade now. Personally, I identify with a lot of the messaging they were conveying with their release, Christmas Island, that dropped shortly after I had discovered them, The album marked a pretty big shift into their more experimental sound, a departure away from their more folk/punky albums, really working with themes of transformation, personal accountability, and the urgent need to leave previous ultimatums of hopelessness by leaning into our power to have a positive impact, and to change lives: your own, the people around you, and the lives of those you’ve never met. Many sessions from age 19 to even as recent as 30(!!!) have been spent crying with headphones in, to several songs off Christmas Island, holding the record cover in a near-fetal position. I can thank this album for a lot of pivoting and self-inventory-…ing I had to do to be a less shitty person during my 20s. I have a lot to be thankful for, thanks to them, I’m even here to see my 30s! Weird!
Anyways, I had some big emotions today, and decided to make a diorama as an homage to the diorama that is on the album cover of Christmas Album (album art by Suzanne Falk!)

Temple Grandin Too
“There's something big and powerful and wise
And it's begging us to end its tragic life
So let's be Temple Grandin for the night
A hug without a human is alright
We’ll find a friendly way to make it die
A hug without a human is alright
We’ll find a friendly way to make it die”
